Advanced Geoscience Research Letters | Nexus Research Press

About the Editors

Like the most selective journals in the Earth sciences, Advanced Geoscience Research Letters operates without an external editorial board. All editorial decisions — including initial assessment, decisions to send for peer review, revision requests, and final acceptance or rejection — rest with a dedicated, in-house team of professional editors who hold doctoral or equivalent research qualifications and maintain active awareness of developments across the geosciences.

Dr Elena Rostova

Chief Editor

Elena brings over a decade of combined research and editorial experience to the leadership of AGRL. Her doctoral research at ETH Zürich applied stable isotope and noble gas geochemistry to questions of mantle degassing, geogenic hydrogen generation, and crustal fluid evolution. She subsequently held postdoctoral positions at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry and the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences before joining Nexus Research Press in 2019, first as a Senior Editor handling primary research across geochemistry and solid-Earth geophysics, and then as Editor-in-Chief of AGRL from its founding in 2023.

Dr Samuel Mbeki

Senior Editor — Solid Earth Sciences

Samuel received his PhD in Structural Geology and Tectonics from the University of Cape Town, where his dissertation examined the rheological controls on crustal deformation in Precambrian mobile belts across southern Africa. He joined AGRL in 2023 following postdoctoral research at the University of Witwatersrand and a visiting fellowship at the University of Toronto. He handles manuscripts across structural geology, tectonics, metamorphic petrology, seismology, and geochronology.

Dr Kenji Okamoto

Senior Editor — Earth Observation & Climate

Kenji holds a PhD in Geoinformatics from the University of Tokyo, where he developed machine-learning-based frameworks for multi-source satellite data fusion applied to land-surface characterisation and cryosphere monitoring. His postdoctoral research at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center focused on ice-sheet mass balance reconstruction from combined gravimetry and altimetry observations. He joined AGRL in 2024 and handles manuscripts across remote sensing, geoinformatics, glaciology, hydrology, and climate science.

Dr Florence Dupont

Senior Editor — Ocean, Atmosphere & Palaeosciences

Florence completed her doctoral research at Sorbonne University, applying paired boron and carbon isotope proxies to the reconstruction of Cenozoic ocean pH and atmospheric CO₂ variability. She subsequently held a CNRS research position and a visiting associate professorship at Princeton before transitioning to scientific publishing. She joined AGRL at its founding and handles manuscripts in palaeoclimatology, palaeoceanography, ocean biogeochemistry, atmospheric science, and environmental geochemistry.

Dr Priya Anand

Senior Editor — Environmental & Hydrological Sciences

Priya received her PhD from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, where she investigated hydrogeochemical controls on groundwater quality in intensively irrigated agricultural basins across South Asia. Her research drew on field hydrogeology, reactive transport modelling, and isotopic tracers. She joined AGRL in 2024 and handles manuscripts in hydrology, limnology, groundwater science, environmental geosciences, natural hazards, and biogeochemistry.

Dr Blessing Okonkwo

Associate Editor — Natural Hazards & Geomorphology

Blessing holds a PhD from the University of Lagos and a postdoctoral appointment at the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture, where she investigated land-surface feedbacks on convective precipitation intensity in West African monsoon systems. Her research interests span hydrogeology, geomorphology, natural hazard assessment, and dryland surface processes. She joined AGRL in 2025 and brings a strong commitment to supporting research from the African continent.
