Manuscripts submitted to Advanced Geoscience Research Letters must be written in clear, precise English. While AGRL does not require authors to use professional language-editing services, doing so before submission can improve the clarity of the work and may help a manuscript reach peer review more readily.
We strongly recommend professional language editing if English is not your first language and you are not confident that the manuscript is written to a standard that allows scientific meaning to be conveyed precisely and without ambiguity. Editors cannot assess the scientific merit of a manuscript that is unclear due to language quality; such manuscripts may be returned prior to peer review.
Nexus Research Press has partnered with a number of accredited language-editing service providers. These services are independent of the journal's editorial process and do not guarantee acceptance; however, they are staffed by experienced scientific editors with expertise in the Earth sciences. Discounted rates are available for AGRL authors.
In addition to language editing, authors may wish to consider independent scientific editing of their manuscript — a service in which an experienced geoscientist reviews the structure, clarity of argument, and presentation of data before submission. This is distinct from peer review and does not influence the editorial decision.
Authors who have had their manuscript professionally edited should indicate this in their cover letter and, where possible, provide the name of the service used. This helps editors to focus on scientific content rather than language quality during initial assessment.
