Advanced Geoscience Research Letters is committed to the principle that access to scientific knowledge must not be determined by financial circumstance. All articles are published under a CC-BY 4.0 licence immediately upon publication, free to read by any researcher or citizen anywhere in the world.
As a fully open-access journal, AGRL requires an Article Processing Charge (APC) upon formal acceptance of a manuscript. APCs are used to cover the costs of peer-review management, professional editing and typesetting, DOI registration, digital preservation, and worldwide open-access hosting.
APCs are invoiced only at the point of formal acceptance. No charge of any kind is made for manuscripts that are rejected at any stage of the editorial process, including after peer review.
AGRL maintains a structured waiver programme to support researchers who would otherwise be unable to publish open access due to financial constraints.
A full waiver of the APC is automatically available to corresponding authors who are based at institutions located in countries classified as low-income or lower-middle-income by the World Bank at the time of submission. No application or justification is required; authors simply select "waiver request" during submission and their eligibility is verified automatically.
Authors based in upper-middle-income countries, or in low-income countries not covered by the automatic waiver, may apply for a partial waiver. Applications are reviewed by the editorial office on a case-by-case basis. Authors should submit a brief statement of financial circumstances and evidence of institutional funding limitations. Partial waivers of 25–75% of the APC are available.
Waiver decisions are made entirely independently of editorial decisions. No editor involved in evaluating a manuscript is aware of an author's waiver application until after a final publication decision has been made.
Nexus Research Press has entered into transformative agreements with a number of research-intensive institutions and national library consortia. Under these agreements, researchers affiliated with participating institutions can publish in AGRL without paying an APC at the point of acceptance; the APC is covered centrally through the institutional agreement.
To check whether your institution has a current agreement, log in to the submission portal — your eligibility will be identified automatically based on your institutional email address. If you believe your institution should be considered for an agreement, encourage your librarian to contact us at agreements@nexusresearchpress.com.
Publication in AGRL under CC-BY 4.0 satisfies the open-access mandates of all major research funders, including the European Research Council, Wellcome Trust, Research Councils UK (UKRI), Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Authors funded by these bodies are encouraged to confirm funder compliance requirements at the time of submission.
